A significant traffic sign project on a national scale began in 1987, when the traffic signs on highways 6, 7, and 8 were replaced with new ones. Until then, Tommi Saarni, who had installed traffic signs while working for his father, founded his own company, Normikilpi Ky. The competitive Normi won the contract, which secured work for the young company well into the future.
Normi’s installation pace eventually became so rapid that traditional sign suppliers could no longer keep up. As a solution, it was decided to establish a modern traffic sign factory of its own, based on new technology for the industry: industrial production of reflective sign surfaces by printing. After the Amsterdam traffic trade fair, Normiopaste Oy began operations in Tampere in May 2008.
Normi further strengthened its position as the clearly largest operator in the Finnish guidance and signage industry in 2018 by acquiring the guidance business of Elfving Signum Oy through a business acquisition. As part of this, Normi’s product range expanded significantly to include various safety signs and property signage.

The CE marking of traffic signs came into force on 1 July. From that point onward, the combination of the sign and its mounting hardware, as well as the post, must be CE marked. Please ensure that approved materials are used and that the correct requirements are specified in tender requests.
